Bunk beds Are Space Saving And Fun

Bunk beds are space saving and fun beds for kids to have in their rooms.  As siblings often have to share a room, it is often preferred that bunkbeds are used to conserve space.   Bunkbeds are more innovative today than they were years ago when they consisted simply of a twin over twin bunk bed.  Today’s bunk beds are a variety of different styles that can suit just about any need.

One of the most innovative types of bunk beds to come along in a while is the futon bunk bed.  The futon bunk bed is a sofa and a bed all in one piece of furniture.  The sofa is on the bottom of the futon bunk bed.  The futon bunk bed is not a real eastern futon but the mattress is similar to a real futon which is a large, pillow type mattress.  The bottom part of the futon bunk bed folds down into a bed that is the size of a full bed.  When folded up, it is a sofa.  You can purchase one of these type of bunkbeds in a choice of colors.  The mattress usually will compliment the color of the futon bunk bed as well.  Most of these bunkbeds are made of metal.

Another rather innovative idea for bunkbeds is the twin over full bunk bed.  The twin over full bunk bed has a twin bed as the top bunk and a full bed as the bottom bunk.  These bunkbeds have been around for about 15 years and have been very popular since then.  There is a ladder, as always, leading up to the top bunk.  These bunkbeds are not expensive and you only need to get a twin mattress and full mattress to set the twin over full bunk bed up

Years ago, bunkbeds for the house were made solely of wood.  Many of the bunkbeds were able to be taken apart and made into two separate beds when they were not being used as bunkbeds any longer.  They were usually used when children were younger, but as they got older, they no longer liked the idea of sleeping in bunkbeds.

Some of the wood that was used to make bunk beds is still used in these beds today.  This includes maple and walnut.  You can purchase a walnut bunk bed that is perfect for a boy’s bedroom.  Walnut is a very dark wood and looks elegant and masculine.  You can get a walnut bunk bed at most stores that sell furniture for children’s rooms.  Many of the wooden bunkbeds such as the walnut bunk bed also have chests of drawers that also go with them.

In some wooden bunkbeds, there are built in drawers that either go under the bottom bunk or are built on the sides of the bunkbeds.  As bunkbeds are normally purchased as a space saving method, the drawers are an added bonus.

Another fine wood to use for bunk beds is maple.  You can find a maple bunk bed in the same furniture stores and online outlets that you can find other bunkbeds.  A maple bunk bed is a hard wood that will last a good long time and has a pleasant, golden tone to it.

If you are decorating a girl’s bedroom and looking for bunkbeds that will match a more feminine décor, you may want to consider a white bunk bed.   You can find a white bunk bed either made of metal or out of wood at most outlets.  In some cases, canopies can be used for these type of bunkbeds.

Bunkbeds have been used in homes for about 50 years.  Prior to that, they were used just about everywhere that you needed more sleeping space.  When you have bunkbeds, you can sleep more people in the same amount of space.  If you have a twin over twin bunk bed, you can easily sleep two children instead of one in the same amount of space.

If you have a full over full bunk bed, you can actually sleep four children at once.  A full over full bunk bed is something that has just been made recently and is made from metal.  It is the most comfortable way for older children to sleep.

No one loves bunkbeds as much as younger children, but children should be about 6 years old before they are relegated to the top bunk of a bunk bed.  Although bunkbeds have rails at the top so that a sleeping child cannot fall out, a young child might not understand the he or she has to climb down the ladder to get to the floor.  They can get up out of bed and fall as they try to get out of bed.  This is why it is better for a child to be older than 5 in order to be put into the top bunk of bunkbeds.

If you have two siblings sharing beds, they may or may not fight over the top or bottom bunk. Depending on the seriousness of the conflict, you may have to get involved a bit.  You do not want them to think that you are playing favorites, so you may have to come up with creative ideas to try to solve the problem of who sleeps where when it comes to the bunkbeds.  In some cases, the older child naturally assumes the lower or upper bunk and the younger child just gets the bunk to which they are relegated.  Children are all different and sometimes siblings fight over nonsense and sometimes not at all. Either way, if you get bunkbeds for your kids who are sharing a room, you should probably be prepared for some sort of battle over who gets to climb that ladder to the top bunk.

Bunkbeds are great space saving items and are also a lot of fun for kids.  By the time your kids are ready to move on to college, they will most likely have grown out of bunkbeds.  Oddly enough, many college dorms also have bunkbeds so your child might just wind up with the same thing.
